Pacifier Love

While I was in labor I got an e-mail from someone at Babble.com asking for permission to use a picture of Huck that we had up on Flickr for an article about weening from a pacifier. The article (which can be found here: click!) is very pro-pacifier, and is fitting for our current relationship with Huck's pacifier. I made a feeble attempt at weening Huck from his "ish" (he made up that word for it, I'm not sure where it comes from) before Milo was born. But I stopped when I realized that the only reason I was doing it was because I thought that it looked kinda trashy--not for any health or dental reasons. Huck loves his pacifier. He is passionate about the thing, and with his two year molars cutting through and the appearance of Milo in his life, I've decided to cease all attempts at weening the "ish." It helps him sleep and comforts him when he's hurt or sad, and it keeps him from shoving other things in his mouth during teething. Anyway, the article makes lots of pro-pacifier arguments and the photo of Huck can be found on the homepage of Babble, as a thumbnail in the "New this week" section and as the header for the article itself. And, no, we didn't get any compensation for this, just a link to Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky! at the end of the article.

I am proud to say that I sucked my thumb until I was 12. My parents made many attempts to ween me but eventually I just grew out of it. I do have an overbite because of it but I can actually remember the comfort and security that came along with the action and sometimes I wish I had something so simple to turn to when I was upset or uncomfortable. I don't know if you should wait until 12 to ween Huck (now that's trashy). I love that picture!

Ryan sucks his thumb instead, and we aren't planning to cut his thumb off anytime soon.

Congrats on Milo! You have the cutest sons ever. :) My mom sent me the link to your blog a little while back. I wanted to ask, what type of camera you have and use for the pics on here. I'm in the market for one that takes real nice pictures. And it appears you have that. :)
